What the press reports for 2026

Récord reported in January 2026 that the passport office charges MX$920, MX$1,795, MX$2,440 and MX$4,280 in 2026, which match the law amounts rounded ⁴. The same report says the one-year passport is issued only to children under three ⁴. The foreign ministry fee page could not be opened for this guide, so check the amount when you book.

Discounts and the emergency surcharge

• People over 60 pay 50% of the fee ¹
• People with a proven disability pay 50% of the fee ¹
• Farm workers going abroad under government agreements pay 50% for passports of up to six years ¹
• A passport issued as an emergency costs 30% more than the normal fee for the same validity ¹

Renewal and children

The law sets the fee by validity, not by age or by first passport versus renewal ¹. A renewal costs the same as a new passport of the same length ¹.

How to apply

You need an appointment at a passport office of the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores in Mexico or at a consulate abroad, and there is no service without one ⁴. You prove Mexican nationality with a birth certificate or another accepted document ⁴. Use only official channels and avoid agents ⁴.

Applying from abroad

Mexican consulates charge in US dollars. For 2026 the fees are US$44 for one year, US$101 for three years, US$137 for six years and US$209 for 10 years ^2,3.
